There hasn’t been very much news to report this month. Bloggers keep on blogging, diggers keep on digging and hosters keep on hosting. However, I have noticed over the past several months that hosts have raised their bandwidth and in some cases disk allocation offerings. This is good news, although the concern when this happens is that hosts are overselling. But, who knows if they are really overselling? Perhaps they are using clustering network technology which can balance and adjust. Hey, I never said I was an expert in hosting, just that I love the subject. Thoughts?

In the earlier days having a blog previous an instant hit. Society atlas embraced writing web logs accrue the beginning, did comprehend a lot of extra exposure. Advanced the mass is enjoyable on a train everywhere already left the gasoline station jarring time away back.

The success of the first blogs explained

The first blogs on the web i.e. non commercial and that one shot the first ingredient for their success. Second, web logs are quality assuage and can be made really easy. As we all know search engines occur Google really love good gratification. The first blogs could be on top of search results in mayor search engines do like Google in a matter of days, where other (big) websites struggled to work out the same result in years. This could happen because web logs contain loads of idea over is clannish to quality alleviate. Other traditional websites mutated their sites with tricks that did not compete with the awesome power of blogs: honest quality measure.

These days loads of customs have their bad break blog and I must say 90% is not even worth skull session. Because the amount of citizenry having a blog is exploding, search engines everywhere quite that is able to find thin good lucky fit websites, not often have to struggle with the millions of blogs with absolutely no good gratify at all. Over blogs are not updated on a regular basis, they are seldom made to sell products or used for marketing the thousands “memorize rich quick schemes” talk into on the internet. They really lack the power a good blog can have.

Next generation blogs

But there are really good blogs roundabout and web logs will definitely stay prove for a while. Barring that there is a other generation blogs on their indiscriminately. Blog rubrics are changing fast, divergent haut monde start to mortify photos and pictures on their blogs. This caused a very interesting phenomenon. The first pictures of the London strikes where spread by blogs so fast, that they did beat the big television networks and news agencies. Polity unerringly submitted their pictures made give up the scene with their mobile phones on their blogs. Other blogs picked up the news with the photo material in minutes and spread them waste time with radiance speed. I think this is the evidence that blog are really powerful duds and fitting their place on the internet. With the implementation of video on blogs their importance and popularity is even growing. This makes us consumers of news and multimedia severely more independent over again big commercial TV and news agencies. Those foe have other interests to consider then provide us with objective news, quality TV and radio courses. These advertisers and bourgeoiss want everything to be a commercial success, rather then not so commercial quality blissful.

If you want to start your blog then here are part of tips.

These days you can’t turn any money once in a while having a blog. You are usage too late to do that at this stage. Use web logs for their his purpose e.g. provide quality compose. This is the only improvement to attract the well-to-do to you web log.

Pick a quality blog hosting provider on the internet where to host your blog. There are free providers emulate blogger.com and Bloxster.net, fast pace of them are free and provide features for your blog you really need. There is no reason why you should go for a paid service. The bigger the blog community not always kitty this is the best choice, because the servers of these providers cyclic can’t handle the hughe amount of traffic and need to be shut down for maintenance very regular. So bloxster.net pretended be a good pick

Post pictures with your articles to enhance your blog. If you have a startup rope or you want to be the new members rising pop major on the shut off, place a join to your demo (win one in mp3 format), and place it on your blog. This is imperative hull judgment. While traveling submit travel stories and photo’s to inform citizens at home or peer shipments turn your adventures. You can even glide video on you blog!

Most important write and provide quality ease and update your weblog on a regular basis. Also take the time to promote your blog and rss feed to web blog directories because the competition of other blogs is fierce!

by Rodney Ringler

One of the hardest tasks facing any web hosting company is stumbling on a winning formula that drives sales and accelerates company growth through a healthy cash flow. Some hosts arrive at this stage with a rough idea of the ingredients used in their recipe however rarely are they able to pinpoint the exact reason. A multitude of reasons and factors contribute to the success of an individual hosting company’ success and once you have a vague idea of the factors which have made a positive effect on your business, it’s hard not to blindly repeat those practices in the hope of continued success.

What this article aims to do is explore some of the recent changes in the hosting market, the behavioural pattern of consumers and predict trends which can be used to examine your current practices. If you have a clearer idea of ‘why’ something you are doing is successful, you can be confident in being able to adapt the way you do things when the underlying factors change. Stumbling through with no idea of why you are currently successful can only lead to pure frustration when what used to work to perfection suddenly starts to yield drastically poor results instead.

The key change in the market is that hosting consumers today are overwhelmed by more choices of services and suppliers than they could ever possibly use. What this means is that a company with a quality hosting product (e.g. Tier 1 network, top grade hardware and software investments) is still not guaranteed to sell their product. In order to succeed, the host must be clearly able to differentiate their company and service. That means understanding the modern customer and throwing away what you ‘used’ to know about selling.

Through overexposure the average consumer has become used to ‘aggressive’ sales techniques from years gone by which are still used today by many hosts. Anyone with a basic background in sales is taught two basic rules.

1. Never ask a question that allows the customer to easily reply with a ‘No’ – always a ‘Yes-Yes’ question thus getting them to accustomed to saying ‘Yes’ in preparation for the close.

Here is an example:

We have this amazing deal that can save you money on your hosting bills! I’m sure you’d love to save on your hosting right?

Any simpleton can see that the idea is to make choosing the ‘No’ option embarrassing for the customer. That is to say anyone who says ‘No, they don’t want to save on their hosting bills’ is clearly an idiot. Unfortunately through over exposure the customer recognizes this as a sales pitch / technique (even though not consciously aware of it. Mentally the result is apathy towards the sales person and resistance to the close.

But die hard sales professionals will claim that this is part of Sales & Marketing 101! The only answer to that is that customers have evolved and thus the sales professional and the companies themselves will need to change. Some methods may have worked a treat in the past – but that doesn’t mean they will work forever. The second basic rule is demonstrated below:

2. Create a sense of urgency to prompt the customer into action. By putting a time limit on an exclusive deal or insisting the supply of the hosting service won’t exist for long you are forcing the customer into purchasing. An example for this clearly not needed since we are bombarded with such offers through television, Internet, radio and mail day and night.

Unfortunately as mentioned before, the customer through overexposure knows that there is no real need for urgency. That the same deal WILL be available tomorrow and that perhaps an even better one might be available. They have also learned to shop around.

The mentality with most hosts today is ‘what’s in it for me?’ and this mentality leads to aggressive marketing with principles such as the above being utilized. To sell to and subsequently acquire a modern hosting client you need to change the mentality of your approach completely. The client of today no longer wants to simply buy a product; he/she is looking for a long-term relationship with you. They are looking for quality that can be measured. Let’s answer the ‘what’s in it for me?’ question with regards to building a long term relationship with your client. A hosting company that thinks only about the short term is interested only in making the sale, and then proceeding to making the next sale and so on. It doesn’t matter how the client is acquired as long as the client is acquired. These hosting companies will engage in sales and marketing tricks like above and the result will be consumers will adapt by learning how to avoid getting trapped by the hosts. It’s clear that this is already happening.

In such a situation, place yourself in the shoes of the consumer. Would you be willing to give such a company referrals? Would you want to repeat the sales process? How committed would you be to maintaining a relationship with your host? At any hint of trouble with billing or any other facet of hosting, you will be complaining to the host and posting these problems on public forums. The idea is to think long term and put the customer in a position where THEY are concerned about your profitability. Because they are happy with the actual sales process and have the basis of trust built with you, they wish you to remain stable and viable when it comes to renewing their plan. Thus, referrals and commitment to making the relationship work on their part is more forthcoming.

The key to success is spotting the changes before your competitors do. Technological changes mean nothing. Introducing a new feature to your plans or reducing prices can be matched in literally days.

by Josh Green

In the last decade, the Internet has become one of the most important and effective platforms in which to promote yourself and your products. But if you’re not an experienced webmaster, getting such a project underway can seem a bit overwhelming. However, this article will show you how such a project can become both a fun and an enriching experience for anybody who wants to create his or hers own website. You will learn how to built and maintain a practical and efficient website for all your visitors to enjoy.

The Plan:

The first and undoubtedly most important, but often forgotten, step is drawing up a plan. In this stage of the process, it is the time to lay out the details of your website project. Of course your website is a work in progress, and you will most likely change many things along the way, but if you do not have a clear idea of the direction you want your project to go in, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the magnitude of such an ambitious project and give it up all together. Here are a few things I strongly suggest you do not overlook when planning for you Internet project:

Give yourself a deadline:

Of course this is not set in stone and there are no consequences for not finishing in time. But it is a good idea to set deadlines in order to maintain some sort of order in your project.

Make a list of people who can help:

We all have that friend or relative who is good with computers or even an old college buddy who has a knack for writing articles. You can ask them if they can help you in any of the aspects of your project.

Make a budget:

How much are you I willing to invest is an important question you must ask yourself at this stage. You will have to do a bit of research at this point. Again, none of the decisions you take on are set in stone, but having a good idea of how much designing your website, registering you domain name or hosting you website will cost is an important part of the first step.

Define your website:

A few questions you should ask yourself at this point are what will the overall theme of the website be and who is your intended public. A good idea for a first website would be to build it around a passion of yours.

Plan the overall look of your website:

Without getting into specific detail, such as logos, pictures or color scheme, it is a good idea at this stage to have a clear idea of what you want your website to look like. Depending on the overall theme and nature of you website, you will have to decide on the look you will want to achieve. For example, a site talking about your favorite sport or television series will not have the same look as a website promoting business related books.

Decide how much time you want to put in:

Finally, in this step you will have to take some time and think about how much of the work you would like to do yourself and how much of it is going to be done by professionals. There are certain aspects of a website that are more time consuming than others, so you will want to spend your time on the things you deem most important.

If you’re having problems with this stage, don’t get discouraged. Like I said earlier, it is without a doubt the most difficult stage in the process. While you can have professional do things for you in subsequent stages, deciding the overall look and theme of your website is a decision you have to take all on your own.

The content:

The next step in creating a popular website your visitors will consistently come back to is to offer them the information they need through useful and up-to-date content. If you have already defined a clear picture of what your website is about in the first step of the process, you can now easily understand what your potential visitors are looking for. You should also decide at this point, in what way you would like communicate this information. Articles and tutorials are a great way of offering free and compelling information to your visitors.

There are numerous website that offer articles you could use on your website. You can browse through an extensive collection of articles and add them to your website. As long as you follow the guidelines set by the website and the respective authors, you may use these articles on your site as a way to offer compelling content for you readers. There are several of these article directory websites out, such as goarticles.com, easyarticles.com and articledashboard.com just to name a few. It may also be a good idea to write your own articles. This isn’t as difficult as it may seem, especially if your site’s theme is based on a subject you’re particularly passionate about. You may even share your articles on these article directory sites. In return, your article may be published on other websites with an active hyperlink to yours.

You may also have a product to sell or to promote. Even though this part of your website is indented to get you a profit, this does not mean you can’t offer any relevant free information to your user. In fact, offering the reader a good and honest review of both the pros and cons of purchasing such a product can be a great way of concluding sales.

Another great way of helping your visitors in their search for answers is by redirecting them to other websites that offer complementary information. You should however note that asking for permission to link to these websites is highly recommended and is the ethical and acceptable way of doing things.

The Design:

Graphic design:

As important as the content is in getting your readers to come back to your site, the graphics and overall appearance of the website is just as important in creating a great first impression. Everything, from the color scheme, the graphics used, such as your logo, to your picture selection all work together toward achieving the look you ultimately want your website to have. The important thing is not to get carried away with the graphics on your website. If you take a look at any corporate website on the Internet, you will notice they have a nice clean look, relying on nicely positioned photos and carefully selected graphics. You should also try to remain fairly consistent in your overall layout. Essentially, every page on you website should look the same. This will maximize your sites usability, allowing visitors to navigate with ease throughout your website.

One option can be to use templates that can be either found for free on the net, or that come with software you may purchase. It should be noted that this will require some form of coding skill to add the content you need for your website. You must also realize that finding a template that perfectly matches your needs may be hard to find, but remains a viable solution for your first website. Now for those of us who want to create a customized website that will suit our requirements, hiring a professional designer is another possibility. Of course, this can cost a considerable amount of money in the long run, especially if you plan on creating more than one website. Therefore, learning how to create simple graphics for your website is a great way of saving money that could eventually be spent more wisely on a good hosting company for example.

Mastering a photo editing program such as Photoshop may take several years, but creating simple graphics such as a logo, a banner or a content box is possible with a little help and practice. A great way of learning to design graphics for websites is with the help of tutorials. You can find loads of free tutorials on sites like tutorialoutpoust.com, pixel2life.com, good-tutrorials.com and many more. With a step by step visual approach, you’ll be creating beautiful graphics in no time.

Coding:

With your content and graphics now ready, you can now move on to the next step of creating the actual website. You must code everything into a language called HTML (HyperText Markup Language) that Internet browsers can recognize. Now any experienced programmer can manually code HTML using a text editor such as Notepad. You may try your hand at manually coding a website if you’re up for a challenge. You may be able to code a simple website using free online courses such as the ones we find at w3schools.com.

Of course, these days they’re exists a multitude of software such as Dreamweaver that can help you program entire websites quicker and more efficiently. Like Photoshop, it may take a while before you get the hang of this program, but you may easily create a simple and appealing website that fits your immediate needs with the help of free online tutorials on websites such as pixel2life.com and many more.

Another option would be to have a professional programmer create a website to your specifications, but again this can be quite costly in the long run. It all depends on your budget and the nature of your intended website. If it’s a commercial website, you may feel that investing in a designer and programmer may be worth it because there is a possibility you may make the money back fairly quickly.

Get up and running:

At this stage of the process, you are just one step away of realizing your dream of having our very own website. Once your website is ready, it is time to get your pet project out there to the World Wide Web, for the whole world to see.

Web Hosting: This is the time for you to choose where you are going to put your site. There are multitudes of hosting services available for you to choose from, but it is important to do so according to your requirements. There are many places on the web where you can host your website for free. Of course, there will be some conditions imposed on you in return, such as adding an advertising banner. If you have an Internet connection, your Internet Service Provider will most likely have a space where you could place your website for free. Although limited in space, this can be a viable second option for your very first personal website. You could also use this space to test out your website. If you plan on operating a commercial and professional looking website, you will have to purchase space from a hosting service. Depending on your needs, there are an endless amount of hosting packages that will be offered to you. The size of your website and the amount of visitors you expect are some of the factors you must consider before signing-up with any hosting service. I recommend using Godaddy.com’s hosting service. They offer several packages to choose from, all of which are relatively cheap and reliable.

Domain Name:

This is also the stage where you must register a domain name. Your domain name will be unique name (address) that will best represent your website. A good tip is to keep the name relatively short, so that your viewers will remember it the name next time they want to visit your website. For personal websites, a good idea would be to use your name. As for business related websites, this stage may be a bit trickier because a lot of the best domain names have already been taken. This is where your creativity comes into play. Once you’ve done your research and have come up with a good name, I once again recommend visiting Godaddy.com and learn more about their offers.

Maintaining you website:

After all that hard work, you finally have your website up and running. At this point in the project, you can take a breather and be proud of what you have accomplished, but you also have to keep in mind that it is crucial to your website’s success that you maintain your website. In fact, maintaining your website is perhaps the most important aspects of running a website. Some of the steps you will have to take are: making sure your links remain functional and keeping your content up-to-date. Aside from the fact that frequently updating your website’s content will help you with your ranking in search engines; it will also benefit the lifeblood of your website, your users.
HostingCon is over and there aren’t many interesting things happening at the moment, as far as I can tell. Files are still ensconsed obediently on server drives, being accessed whenever users decide to access them. Datacenters are still running their air conditioners underneath bright flourescent lights. People are writing about their HostingCon experiences. But, I’m in the mood for something new. Someone make my month!

Copyright © Dr. Nophea Kim Phat http://www.actnowforprofits.com/

This article is intended for online newbies.

If you are thinking of starting online home based business, shared webhsoting is the best option. Shared webhosting is an ideal for new online starters, individuals or small-to-medium scale businesses that cannot afford to have fast connection to the internet for their web site on their own. This is where the shared webhosting businesses come in. They provide the customers a way to outsource their Internet requirements in a more affordable way. Shared webhosting is housing and serving files for a web site.

Individuals and companies are allowed to share the cost of a fast Internet connection for serving files in the shared webhosting service allows. This is the basic, entry-level fee-based hosting service available to the customer. With shared webhosting clients are allowed to host their website on a powerful server at a minimal affordable monthly cost. Shared webhosting provides individual sites with connectivity and guaranteed uptime. Shared webhosting is designed to host small-scale e-commerce sites web pages. Shared webhosting is commonly used by first-time webmasters because they can have a reliable Web presence without having advanced technical know-how. Shared webhosting is good for small-scale consumer because they are assured of transparent services, domain name for its website and set of email addresses.

Due to its low cost, it makes shared webhosting very attractive to the consumers. A minimal monthly fee for a shared webhosting service is preferable than a dial-up service. Most small-scale business and individuals prefer shared webhosting because of its low price and it provides basic services. Furthermore, shared webhosting popularity is its convenience of use. Site activation and set-up time in shared webhosting is fast, usually takes a few minutes after ordering the services.

Usually, Shared webhosting services are bundled. With a minimal monthly fee, it offers multi-platform website solutions. Bundled services that are more than even for your businesses include: limited amount of disk storage space for web pages, limited amount of monthly data transfer, email forwarding services with physical email boxes that allows you email aliases at your domain name, unlimited file transfer protocol (FTP) services. Shared webhosting alos provide access to Web statistics for you to gage the number of internet visitors visiting your web site. This service usually includes raw statistical logs and site statistics (how many visitors visited your site). Also, shared webhosting will include free 24X7 technical supports. Tips: more visitors will consume more space of your data transfer, and that would cause your server to crush. If you expect rapid growing number of your visitors (for example if you invest more in advertising), you should choose a service that offer more space. The best option is to upgrade your hosting plan.

Additional services in a shared webhosting are daily tape backup of web site, anonymous FTP server for you to provide public access via file transfer protocol format and CGI-BIN access to upload scripts that will add features to your website. Tips: daily backup is also important for your business success!

Again if you are a new online starter (commonly called newbie), shared webhosting is truly a great way to avail of fast internet connection for your website at a very minimal monthly cost. You can start your home based business with a small investment of less than 100 bucks. Visit my site to read more home based business tips and opportunities.

by SY Ho

Are you at a crossroads now, deciding which type of hosting best suits your needs? This is definitely an important decision as it will affect how your business will run on the webspace in the future. So, before you start submitting a ticket to the support department or calling the sales department of any hosting provider to ask regarding your confusion, take a look at the guidelines and tips which I’m about to introduce to you.

First of all, ask yourself, which type of web busineses are you planning to get involved in? Next, I’ll show you the advantages, disadvantages and features offered to you by both shared hosting and dedicated server hosting. Before I proceed further, let’s refresh your mind with the definition of both types of hosting. Shared hosting, as most of you should be well-versed, is hosting where a lot of websites share the same resources in one server. Resources here simply mean the total webspace, the memory, the processor speed, as well as the bandwidth.

Dedicated server on the other hand, give you the freedom of being alone. Alone means you are the sole owner of the server. You can do whatever you want and no other sites share the resources with you. It sure comes with a price as dedicated server is way more expensive than shared hosting. However, if you believe that the advantages which I shall be listing in a short while are the advantages you long to have, then it’s wise to conclude that these advantages can outweigh the expensive price (but still affordable) of dedicated server.

Facing the challenges in the world of sharing!
Here’s a simple analogy; renting a room on your own or finding a roommate to share the room with you. Simply, that’s the problem or risks you might be facing when you opt for shared hosting. Shared hosting is just like you rent a room with a few other roommates. Won’t it be congested to share in a small room? However, there is a reason why people choose to find roommates. Price is the main concern. Same goes to hosting industry. Shared hosting is cheaper and more affordable compared to dedicated hosting. Nowadays, you can find shared hosting with the price of USD4 to USD15 per month.

Therefore, if you think that price is an issue and you are still green in hosting world and your online business has yet to achieve heavy traffic, the best solution is to go for shared hosting first. Consequently, you have to bear the drawbacks of shared hosting but if you choose a reliable and experienced hosting provider (probably in a hosting industry for around 3-4 years), the provider will ensure the most minimal drawbacks for its clients. In shared hosting environment, you will encounter certain disadvantages as follows:

Sharing Same IP
Having the same IP address in shared hosting is the main concern when other sites in the server is actually being blacklisted for unethical activities such as spamming or generating illegal script. Since, you share the same server, it’s obvious you will share the same IP address. So, when other sites are blacklisted, those sharing the same IP with them will also unfortunately share the same fate – being banned alltogether by search engine. You will be the victim of crime which you don’t commit. However, there are times where you can buy yourself a dedicated IP but this usually is not needed unless you are getting yourself an SSL certificate. In cases such as this one, it depends on your hosting provider on how they deal with clients who do illegal and unapproved activities. Usually, a reliable and responsible host will suspend those sites which perform spamming in order to rescue other sites who are innocent. In short, to get yourself a shared hosting, get to know how your provider deal with those sites which are hosted in the same server as you.

Slow Server Response Time
Using the same analogy as above, if you and your roommates want to use the bathroom, you have to queue up, correct? Hence, it will slow down your daily work. Same goes to shared hosting. If one of your neighbours have heavy daily traffic, it will consume most of the bandwidth and when things get tighten up, you will feel the slow response time such as difficulty accessing your website. This is because server will respond to the requested file in order of the queue. If one of the visitor happens to request it later and is on a long queue, that visitor will experience slow response time and might eventually end up leaving your website.

Server Crashes Regularly
The factor to server crashes more often than usual, is the fact that certain scripts are generated and it can overload a server’s resources. If webhosting provider does not monitor the server’s activity, those poorly-written CGI script can give you more headache than relief. Hence, it’s vital for host provider to monitor the server regularly to prevent server from crashes and to protect your site from being affected. You as a client, please do take the initiative to question your providers on how they take precautions for cases like this one. A well-knowledgable and reliable host provider will be able to answer your question to your satisfaction.

Despite aforementioned bad points, a lot of websites also use this shared hosting solution and if a proper provider is chosen, you can be assured that such incidents will barely happen.

Dedicated Hosting – A world of your own
What makes people opt for dedicated hosting instead of shared hosting? Again, the most important criterion is money. If you can afford a costly solution like this, go ahead. However, don’t just simply go ahead without weighing the pros and cons of dedicated hosting. Even if you have money, and you are just a small medium enterprise, think twice for investing in dedicated hosting. Reason is because dedicated hosting is mainly for large and busy sites such as portal, search engine, online content provider, heavy traffic forums and etc. In addition, dedicated hosting usually requires more technical-savvy specialist to monitor it. Listed below are some of the advantages why dedicated hosting is a popular option:

You are the boss!
Here, it means you have more control of everything. You can install whatever applications and scripts you want. You can do script testing and if anything were to happen, no one else to blame but yourself. You will have the ability to customise the hardware and softwares installed on your server, which you cannot find this priviledge if you are under shared hosting.

No more limitation in bandwidth usage
Compare to shared hosting, you might get yourself a “warning letter” from your hosting provider if you exceed the maximum bandwidth allocated to you. With dedicated hosting, you have the amount of bandwidth of a server. Hence, downloading and uploading any materials from your site will not be a problem if you have a lot of daily visitors performing such activity.

More Secured
Having a dedicated server is in fact more secured compared to shared hosting. This is because dedicated server will be provided its own firewall. Therefore, the information stored in dedicated server is less vulnerable to attacks by hackers or any malicious codes. In addition, hosting provider will usually provide backup for you with added fee, but, in terms of security, it’s actually worth it.

Better Performance
Since dedicated hosting means only you alone are hosted in that server, the response time of the server to requested files will be so much faster compared to shared hosting. Visitors who browse your website will feel happy because your pages will appear on their browser fast enough to satisfy them. Fast loading time will always brighten anyone’s day!

Generally, choosing which type of hosting solely depends on your needs. So, to make a wise decision, do more researches and evaluations as well as consult those highly technical savvy people. Remember that a good and smart decision will determine your online storefronts’ success. Cheers!
